In Chinese culture, we often find ourselves somehow related. Aunty this, uncle that, grandma this, brother that. It often confuses foreigners because most of the time you're not even related by blood. Yet, it is this practice that makes us understand and build tight community. This often bleeds into our scenes in Asia, where we see many scenes weaving a tapestry of relationships into the stories we tell. In this workshop, we will focus on why relationships matter in the scene and how to dive deep quick into the meat of a relationship to make your audience feel a sense of kindred spirits. Through a blend of Chinese theatre exercises and improv exercises, we will work through drawing the guan xi between us and our characters and between the characters and the world created. Timothy (he/him) got his start in improv in 2011 in the UK. He is one of the founders of Ask Auntie Productions that runs musical improv classes and manages ASAP Improv and Les Musicables, two of Singapore's premier improv teams. With both ASAP and Les Musicables, Timothy has coached and performed improvised musical theatre to audiences across Asia over the last decade.
